Win XP Activation

I bought the OEM version of WinXP from NCIX, when I bought all the components
to build my computer, this was well over a year ago. i recently bought a new
harddrive and when i went to reinstall it's telling me that my Xp has already
been installed the maxiumum number of times allowable. I have reformatted a
couple times over the past year and a half, for a couple different reasons,
but am I going to have to purchase new cd key's? If so, I'm not a happy
camper, I bought the CD, and I shouldn't have to pay again, no matter how
many times I reinstall windows on my system.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get my windows activated?

Call Microsoft at the displayed number.
Usually done in about 5 minutes.

because the information held on the machine itself (the number previously
written to your hard drive) will have been wiped out by reformatting the

A really good article, but this part about refusal of activation did not
prove true for me, and I doubt it is true in general:
"There are two versions of OEM Windows XP systems. One can be purchased
separately, with qualifying subsidiary hardware, and installed with that
hardware to an existing machine, to which it becomes bound. The software may
be reinstalled and reactivated indefinitely as with a retail system as long
as it is still on the original machine. It may not be transferred to a
different computer. It is activated as described above, but if it were
installed to hardware seen as not substantially the same, the activation
would be refused as falling outside the license."

hardware and a subsequent reactivation can be accomplished an infinite
number of times. Finally, the Microsoft activation clearinghouse system
will automatically allow activation to occur over the Internet four
times in one year on substantially different hardware." -
