Win Update still doesn't report SP2 is installed

This is a continuation of a problem I posted yesterday.
Some headway has been made but it is still unresolved.
Help still needed.

I manually installed SP2.

Add/Remove reports it is installed.

Win Update doesn't:

When I click to search for additional updates, Win Update
returns 'No updates available'. However, View
Installation History doesn't report that SP2 is installed.

I looked at regedit and found an entry as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Updates/Windows
XP/SP2/KB811113.

Is there some file that I can tweak so Win Update would
recognize the SP2 installation? Should I just reinstall
SP2? Would I need to uninstall SP2 first before I
reinstall it or just reinstall over the existing SP2
installation? I've upgraded several drivers after SP2
install, will I have to redo this if I reinstall SP2?
Questions, questions. Sorry. . .

My worry is that Win Update won't offer future updates if
it doesn't detect that SP2 is installed. Is this a valid
concern?

Hi

You can tell if SP2 is installed by:

Typing the following from Start>Run

winver

or

Right click on My Computer adn select Properties

or

Winkey + Pause/Break

That's because the Windows Update History only reports updates that were
installed using Windows Update! As you installed SP2 manually, why would
Windows Update have that in its history? The fact that Windows Update tells
you there are no new updates to install should be indicatative, shouldn't
it?

Right click "My Computer / Properties / General", you
should see "Service Pack 2".

This isn't quite as intuitive as you make it sound. Update
scans the user's system to determine what updates are
or aren't there, so there's no reason to assume that a
field labeled "Installed Updates" wouldn't include *all*
installed updates.

I'll try when I get home . I installed SP2 manually, so I'll see what
Windows Update says on my machine.

Additionally, I seem to recall that when I've re-formatted and installed the
SP1 hotfixes from a CD, that Windows Update history didn't show them but I
may be wrong.....

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

From my earlier posting, somebody replied that he
installed SP2 manually and Win Update reports it as
installed.

I am sure that SP2 is installed. I have all the new
functionalities: Security Center, Pop-Up blocking, etc.

The problem is purely with the Installation History of Win
Update. Anyone know how to fix that?

It will not show up in installation history if you didn't install it
using windows update. It just won't offer it as an update. There is no
way to change the installation history. Besides, why worry about it.
You have it installed ok, and WU isn't offering it so no problems.

No, SP2 is NOT in my Windows Update History. In fact, if you hover your
mouse over the link to History, it specifically says "shows updates you have
installed *through Windows Update* " - which presumably specifically
EXCLUDES updates done manually.

Win Update doesn't:

To be sure, go to Control Panel - System and see if that refers to
'Service Pack 2'
