Can I use my laptop (Win ME) to connect to my desktop (Win XP pro)? How? I have a firewall @ my desktop and my laptop moves from location to location.

Install Remote Desktop Connection software on the laptop.

At the desktop, you need to open the firewall to allow unsolicited inbound
traffic on port 3389, TCP.

You need to know the IP address of the desktop machine's connection to the
Internet.

In addition, the location the laptop is in must allow traffic on port 3389,
TCP outbound. Some network firewalls may not allow this.

Ok, I'm getting closer... what I need now to find out is how to enable traffic on port 3389 TCP on both the desktop and laptop. I currently use Zone Alarm firewall where I can open traffic from specific IP's but when I travel and don't use a static IP. Will opening traffic into port 3389 allow the RD connection from a dynamic IP?
Thanks for your advise

I'm afraid I don't know the answer about how to configure Zone Alarm. I
would guess others here will, or that it might be easy to find this answer
at their web site--try keywords RDP (remote desktop protocol) or "remote
desktop" in a search.

I don't have experience with their support site, but that kind of search
will work for many router makers sites.
