WIN Install - Stuck during Disk Partition and format ph

I am trying to rebuild my computerafter a crash.
During XP Pro (same for Win-2000) install from CD
when I get to the blue screen starting installing XP phase ,
I get to the section when the drive ( I am using only one drive for now)
partition is shown.
It shows 6GB C: partition and I used the 'C' option to create partition in
the
unallocated space ( this is a 300GB drive).

Next , when I select to proceed ... I get a blue screen saying that win-xp
found a drive that is not format compatible for XP...
and that I should go back, erase the partitions , create a new partition
etc. etc.

This is a LOOP I am stuck in !!

I used another drive that I partitioned and formatted using the disk
manufacturer
CD .

At boot , the system does recognize the drive correctly .

I tried to install win-2000 pro and I get the same problem ... blue screen
....
message that 'NO-Disk' disk is not compatible (format) with windows....

any ideas ??? I am stuck.

thanks

I tried several H.Drives , they all work properly.
I can partition them etc.
The first time I tried to install onto a "used" (win-98 disk) the program
alerted
me to the fact that there is data or other OS on the disk ... and asked "
Do I want to keep this data" ... I answered no. after deleteing that
partition AND creating new partition on the drive the problem started...

delete all partitions and start over

thanks but .. I tried it and does not work.

Please note, I put in a fresh drive from the factory and I get the same
problem....I am going to format this drive on another machine and put it
back into
this computer ..and than will repeat trying to install windows on it.

Then you must have a hardware problem of some sort...

an easy first step would be to replace the data cable

This is an IDE or Sata drive?

As before;
Use the Seagate tools, available as a free download on their web site to
diagnose the hd
(the fact that it is a new hd is immaterial)
