Hi Eileen,

Check with your computer maker to see if they provide a means of restoring
the system to "brand new". Generally, many major manufacturers store this
data on a hidden partition. Instructions for its use should be in your user
manual or help files.

Be aware that these procedures generally wipe the drive, so copy off
important data to removable media (CDR/floppy) before beginning.

WinDVD is a third-party product; it has nothing to do with XP, other than
being an application that runs under it.

$120? I believe that you could buy a retail version of WinDVD for less than
that.

Maybe if you posted the make of your PC, someone (probably not me) could
advise you better. HP systems, for example, use a hidden partition on the
PC's drive to carry system restore software. Make sure that you have a
pretty good idea what you're doing before you run a system restore: a full
destructive restore will return your system to the state it was in when
purchased. All of your files and settings will be gone.

Also, some makers (like HP) that don't provide a system restoration CD will
sell you one at a fairly low price. It's convenient to have such a CD, in
the event that the hard disk fails.

Good luck.
