Win 95/98 game compatibility with XP - having problems!

Yeah, this isn't the games forum, but for some reason that page wasn't
opening, and after all there are many more users here and therefore I may be
able to get more help. If the games forum is working for someone else please
let me know.

I'm running XP Home and I would like to run a game that worked on my
previous machine (Win 98, although the game was originally Win 95). The game
is Panzer General, and so far it has not worked either running from cd (which
I no longer have) or from a downloaded program. When I try to open it in
true color the screen becomes just a jumbled mess of horizontal lines in the
game's colors, if I lower resolution to high color it becomes much more
clear, but still far too blurry to actually play the game. Strangely enough
the actual resolution -1024x768 etc -does not make a difference, but the
high/true color change does. I have already used the PCW and tried it with
256 colors but there was no change. Is there any way to get this game
working or am I simply out of luck?

Have you considered multi-booting?

Install and run DosBox
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/news.php?show_news=1

Then run the game in DosBox

What is multi-booting and how do I do that?

You have multi-booting when you install two different
operating systems in one machine. The two OSs must
reside on different partitions or different disks. At boot
time you get a small menu that lets you select which
OS to boot into.

Installing Win95/Win98 retrospectively on a WinXP
machine may not be trivial. It depends on how many
disks you have, how many partitions and what type
of partitions (FAT32/NTFS).

Another option consists of installing Microsoft's Virtual
PC. It lets you launch a true Win95/Win98 session from
within WinXP.
