WIN 3.1x Game

Many years ago I bought a game, Tower which ran happily on
Windows 3.1x etc. Then I upgraded to Windows 95. It
still ran happily.

<<PROBLEM>>
However since I have upgraded to Windows 2000, this
program does not run. No error messages, just double click
and then get the following error messages (Where **
denotes title line and * is the message text)
** MSVCRT20.DLL for Win32s
* Error: This version of MSVCRT20.DLL is only intended for
Win32s.

Followed by:
** INFO
* LoadLibrary Failed

And finally
** Tower: TOWER.EXE - Application Error
* The instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory
at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
* Click on OK to terminate the program
* Click on CANCEL to debug the program

<OK> terminated the process. <CANCEL> then gave:
** Program Error
* TOWER.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows.
* You will need to restart the program.
* An error log is being created.

No error log was found.

<<ATTEMPTED SOLUTIONS>>

I was initially pointed to
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;279792&Product=win2000

But am running W2k SP4. Even though this link only shows
help for SP2 and SP3, I did try this approach. Whilst I
got the Compatability tab, changing it to W95 didn't work
remove the errors - not sure if this is because this is
SP4 or it wouldn't work anyway.

Also suggested was the idea of a Virtual PC - as yet I
have not tried this approach as it would require my still
having a copy of W95 and then ultimately buying the full
version after the 45 Day Free Trial were it to work.

Thanks in anticipation

This may not necessarily help you right now but if you know someone with
Windows XP you should try installing and running the game on that platform
instead. In my experience Windows XP is much more compatible with older
games than Windows 2000. Upgrading to Windows XP may not be an option but
at least you'd know.
