Win 2k will not open remote assistance email attachment

When I get a request for remote assistance, I connot open
the .McRcIncidient attachment that allows me to connect to
the requesting XP machine. My computer is running Win2k.
When I try to open the attachment, my pc gives me the
message "the file, c:\.... .mcrcincident does not have a
program associated with it for this action......" What
program do I need to run the .msrcincident files?
I have installed the client portion of the remote
desktop. If I try to connect without the email request, I
do not seem to have permission to access the xp machine.
Where would the xp machine set the permissions to allow me
uninvited remote assistance?
Thanks in advance
Jim

The Remote Assistance feature requires XP on both ends--it just isn't
possible the way you are trying to do it--the "fix" is to upgrade to XP--or
at least respond to the requests from an XP machine.

I cannot respond to the request of the XP machine because
my pc will not open the attachment requesting assistance.

This is because the Remote Assistance feature isn't available in Windows
2000.

You can't respond to a Remote Assistance invitation from a machine running
Windows 2000.

You must be running Windows XP on the machine which is responding to the
invitation.

I am having the same problem, except that I am using WinXP Pro. The request was sent to me from a user on an XP Home computer. The name of the email attachment is "rcBuddy.MsRcIncident4" and when I try to open it Windows wants me to tell it what program to use to open the attachment.

I've tried searching all over the web as well as the MS Knowledge Base.

Look at this Google search thread... apparently some email programs rename the Remote Assistance
"rcBuddy.MsRcIncident" file and append a version number at the end of the file extension. The number
appended to the file extension "MsRcIncident" is the problem. Note that Outlook 2003, which I use on
my desktop does not do that. My guess is that Outlook Express also does not do that...

Good thing Al spotted your message before I did! He's got your answer, I
suspect--what e-mail client?

Wow, that was the problem. I am using Eudora 5.2, just like the perso
in the Google Groups thread, and it appended the number 4 to the end o
the extension. Once I erased it, the system immediately recognized th
icon. No wonder I couldn't find anything on the web - I kept searchin
for rcBuddy.MsRcIncident4 instead of just rcBuddy.MsRcIncident.

Thanks for your help!

I'm thinking about upgrading to Eudora 6 - if I do I'll repost whethe
the problem still exists with that version.
