tried to boot my win 2000 pro system and get the following message: setup
did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer...

What is this a sign of? A disk crash? A virus?

Thanks for any feedback.

Setup indicates you are trying to do an install?? It could be a problem with
your hard disk - maybe a loose IDE cable at the drive or mainboard. Generally
when you boot, you should see your hard drive detected by the computer itself
on one of the startup screens after the memory test. If you do not then it is a
hardware problem of some sort. Also try booting into safe mode to see if that
helps, though I doubt it will. --- Steve

Another common reason is an OLDER Machine (circa 1999 BIOS)
where upgrading the BIOS will fix this.
