win 2k boot - stalls for 20 mins on security settings

B

bob

win 2k box
[not the one in my last post !!]

this one - when booting, pauses for up to 20 mins
during boot... always when applying the security settings.

I'm sure these are still on the defaults [probably a bad idea]
was having this prob in sp2 - updated to sp4 - still prob...
it also seems to try and make a network call at this point...
[looking at the activity light on my lan card]
the machine is in a workgroup not a domian, so it shouldn't be looking for
external data

anyone got any answers... or have i just been hacked??

TIA
Bagley

well - thanks for the tips - but dont think it's that...

the dns is correct... i'm not using dhcp so thats not it.
i doubt it the profiles as it is pre login ????
if i'm wrong to assume this please say !!!

one thing it could be is the network card...
is an intel pro100 [i think - or close]
have had grief with it trying to network boot b4 -
but reset that on the cards bios [it now trys a local boot straight away]

I'm gonna try a repair [from cd]... but any further sugestions would be
enjoyed

TIA
Bagley

The last time I ran into this it was caused my DNS
settings being incorrect. Try verifying that your DNS is
configured correctly. Good luck. Steve
