will not start in safemode

Hi,
I am unable to start my laptop into safemode. It seems to get stuck when
loading the drivers on ....\Drivers\ndisrd.sys

I am trying to load into safemode because I am trying to check the HDD for
problems as I am having trouble loading microsoft Office.

What could be causing the computer to not load in safemode but load fine in
normal mode?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Scan the system for spyware and viruses. It is fairly common for spyware to
block safe mode to avoid easy removal.
