My computer refuses to except USB printers. I am now trying a Canon
Multipass 370 and nothing. I followed the directions to the letter.
Installed all software before connecting printer then when it said connect
printer I did and nothing. So I shut off printer and back on, still nothing.
I uninstalled the software a dozen times still won't work. Under printers
and faxes it doesn't show that I have tried to install a printer at all and
if I try manualy to install the printer it doesn't give me an option for USB
only printer ports and comm ports no USB port.
Another question, since I installed the drivers shouldn't I see something in
device manager, even if it's marked yellow, atleast it should be there but
it's not. I downloaded the newest drivers and that did nothing. How do I
tell my computer to look at the USB cables for new printers. I also
disconnected all other USB stuff except my mouse and still nothing, tried
all the ports I have and they all work but not for the printer. I
uninstalled the USB ports completly and restarted the computer and as they
installed they recognized all other devices. There has to be a way to
manualy force the computer to look at the usb connection for stuff like
printers.

Are the USB ports on the motherboard itself or on a hub. If a hub, powered
or unpowered?

The usb ports are factory motherboard. I do have a external hub installed
but I tried the printer in every USB plug on the machine. Even disconected
other items abd restarted. Still nothing

Normally, I end up uninstalling the printer driver, followed by also
uninstalling the USB drivers when simply reinstalling the printer driver
doesn't help. Then Windows auto detects the USB ports on a full power
down/up reboot.
If I understand things correctly the USB subsystem does not show up in
control panel, or shows up in an odd manner?
An off the wall cause would be another device that has "non standard" USB
drivers or a monitor module that interfere with the multipass.
In this case, the install order may be critical. (Cut and try method.) I
usually uninstall everything concerning the USB device drivers, then begin
with the device driver that is for the printer.
