whenever I try to boot the machine it sticks on the window screen; when I try
to boot in safe mode it stalls on that particular driver.
Can can anyone tell me how to start the machine with a atisgkaf.sys problem?

Thanks -- Doug

- What is the recent history of this machine?
- Do you have a good and up-to-date virus scanner?
- Have a look here for expected sizes of this file:
http://www.file.net/process/atisgkaf.sys.html

To check the file size, you could boot the machine with
a Win98 boot disk from www.bootdisk.com, then run
ntfsdos.exe from www.sysinternals.com.

a curious question: Why would I use a Win98 boot disk for an XP machine?

A curious question back at you: How do you intend to check
and verify the size of atisgkaf.sys if Windows won't start?

Hi!
A curious question back at you: How do you intend to check

....and how do you intend to do that if the volume is formatted as NTFS?

A stock Windows 98 boot disk won't do it--you'd need some kind of a helper
like NTFSDOS.

Well, that's what I recommended in my first reply - please
read it again!

OK... I'm out of stupid questions... I understand your point. However, I
went to the site where I was supposed to find the NTFSDOS.exe file, but could
not find it at the site given above.I could use a little more help
negotiating the website to find that file.

Thanks -- Doug

Not a stupid question at all but one that could easily be answered
by me asking a question in return!

I could not readily find ntfsdos.exe at www.sysinternals.com
either but I struck paydirt immediately when I entered this into
a Google search box:

download "ntfsdos.exe"

actually, I had already tried that, but still could not actually download
it. Every site they came u under Google would send me somewhere else when I
would click to download. Can you tell me exactly which place you downloaded
it from?

Thanks -- Doug

I see what you mean. It appears that Microsoft have pulled it
off their site. If you post a valid EMail address, suitably encoded,
then I'll send you a copy.
