Will my PC be able to handle Vista??

Hello there,
The thing is that i had bought my PC quite recently, well actually 2 months
prior to this question i'm asking. The configuration of my PC is a P4
processor with HT technology. 3.02 GHZ, 80gb HDD, 512MB DDR RAM, an original
intel(R)82915G Series Motherboard. A DVD writer from LG and a 17 inch LCD
Monitor from LG.
Now will this configuration hold up vista or do i have to upgrade further,
if I have to what must they be such that this upgrade which i make, makes my
PC "FUTURE PROOF"? Please Help.

Mr Singh,

Listen to a man with over a decade of upgrade experience, that's me. You
cannot spend enough money on upgrades. But in your case more system memory
and make sure your video card is a recent name brand and has at least 128
MBs memory.

I'd get a video card and an additional 512MB of RAM at minimum. The video
card should be from Ati or NVIDIA. You'll need a Radeon 9500 or an FX5200
minimum to get glass. I also recommend that you have at minimum 128MB of
video RAM. 256MB of video RAM is better. Glass runs great on my AGP 8x Ati
Radeon X1600 PRO with 256MB of GDDR2 video RAM. It also gets a good
performance rating.

Singh--

It will handle Vista quite well. You may want to add some more RAM later,
but you can run it just fine. Aero Glass's functionality and the mods to it
in future builds like the recent Aero mouse pointer will depend upon your
Video card--I'm betting that the 2 months old PC came with a video card that
is at least 128MB RAM and probably 256MB.

Singh,

You didn't disclose your video setup... do you have a video card or is your
video "onboard" with memory shared with main RAM?

In either case, I'd upgrade main RAM to at least a gig. More if you'll be
doing stuff like editing home videos. And up to 1.5 gigs if you video is
onboard using shared RAM.

Run the Vista Upgrade Advisor to see if you system's "good enough" for
Vista.

Lang

Dell XPS Gen 2 (loud sucker! Fans suck!)
1 GB RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro w/ 128MB RAM (although, I'm a bit confused here...
device mgr says "Total Available Graphics memory 255MB" and "Dedicated Video
Memory 127MB"... so does that mean I'm using shared memory too? Above and
beyond the 127MB dedicated RAM? Jes' an open question for whoever deigns to
respond...)
