I am using a wireless network at home for internet connection sharing of my
broadband connection.

Is there a setting that I can use to require some sort of password or
authentication to prevent unauthorised access to my broadband connection?

You can set up your wireless access point to use WEP encryption, or WPA on
the newer models.

Most access points will also allow you to do MAC filtering, so you could
tell the access point to only allow certain network cards to attach to it.

You'll have to consult your access point's manual for how to set these
things up.
