Wierd XP Pro FTP bug?

Hello.

I've been running Win XP Pro (SP1) for sometiem now, and ever sicne I've
been using it I notice I loose the ability to ftp occasionally.

I have a pretty simple networking setup:

"Cable Modem" normal DHCP setup on built in LAN card on my Intel mobo
(P4 2.4).
"Intel(R) PRO/100 VE"

"Home LAN" simple static ip connected to home lan using second add-on
nic (old combo pci Link SYS card.
XP sees as "Winbond W89C940-Based Ethernet Adapter (Generic)"

I also do ICS to the rest of my home lan (3 other comps, including a
linux box and two other XP's.)

Sometimes I loose the ability tp ftp to intenet hosts, sometimes I loose
the ability to ftp to my linux box (in which case no comp on the lan cna
ftp to the internt due to this ftp bug). The problem is fine if I reset
the respective nic (disable/enable.)

It does not happen too often and I've sorta gotten used to just reseting
the misbehaving connection.

Is there any reason why this happens? Everything works flawlessly it's
just ftp that likes to zone out into "Connection Refused" land. And more
importantly, is there a fix?

I remember reading of a bug of this sort once but have never been able
to find something on it again.

And no I'm not running a firewall and I am connected straigth to the
modem. (Bare in mind this bug occurs on either nics.)
And yes I'm pretty much up to date on Windows Update.

P.S. I'm tech savy so if you msut get technical, I'll know what your're
talking about :)

I don't think this is an XP problem actually. I have the exact same issue on
my 9x boxes (and they're connected straight to the modem aswell)

So what did you do to fix this?

I just re-boot the PC whenever it happens (not much else you can do).....

Actually in Win98 you cna simulate Win2k/XP's Enable/Disable by going to
System->DeviceManager and disabling the nic in question and then re
enable it, which has the same effect as rebooting as far as the nic is
concerned.
