wierd browser problem

Going crazy on this one: lose browsing on IE6 or Firefox after about 5
minutes after boot or reboot. Email / newsgroups ok.
Problem is on two computers connected to cable modem through wired portion
of router. Tried two different brands of routers too, same thing. Connect
either computer direct to modem and browsing never fails! Three wireless
computers on same router never fail browsing, only the two wired machines.
I've scanned for malware, viruses, adware with no effect. Both wired
machines running W98SE.
HELP!
