Have you tried any of the suggestions at http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/ under "0x80070003
Software Update Incomplete" or "In the process of updating Windows, you are
taken to the Software Update Incomplete page (on Windows XP and Windows
2000)"? Might be some help.
