I have a wireless router, can I password protect the Wi
Fi/SSID let's say from a laptop or someone attempting to
use my hot spot sitting outside my home.

Hi,

Your router controls access should be passworded, and most wireless now
supports WEP (802.11b) or WPA (802.11g), which will prevent others from
using your network regardless of proximity.

Thanks Rick

I don't see that specifically in my Netgear
configuration, i.e. setting a password, guess I'll be
calling Netgear support, I have the MR814

In XP; Network Connections, r-click the Wireless connection, take
Properties Highlight the Network in the box, Properties.

On the Association page select Authentification as open, and encryption
as WEP . Enter a Network key you think up as a password in the box -
13 alphanumeric characters, you will need it the same on each machine
