Wi-Fi connection drops frequently

While using public WiFi hotspots (the no UID, no PWD variety), I find that
my Internet connection drops frequently, although the connection bars are
all green and the status shows connected with excellent signal strength.
Each time I have to re-boot and wait until the connection drops again. Sheer
agony!

Any ideas on what I could do to lick this one?

Wi-Fi card drivers up to date? Do you have the Wireless Client Update
installed? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917021
