3 machines in my house.
on two of them, I can see my son's website java applets
on wife's machine I can't

all 3 machines are win xp pro with all latest updates/patches.
all 3 are on the same home LAN
all 3 are behind ZA.

as far as I can tell, OE is configured the same on all 3 machines.
My wife is getting very upset, please help me before she goes postal.

I've installed Sun's stuff numerous times to no avail.
Uninstall and tried again and again.

OE Options seem to be set correctly.

Please help.

I found that on the machines which JAVA does work on, that in Internet
Options/Advanced, I have listings for Microsoft Virtual Machine and has Java
Consol and JIT compiler checked.

I do NOT have this listings in the WinXP machine that will not show the JAVA
applets.

How do I get Virtual Machine onto the broken computer.

I might add that all 3 machines are using a different copy of a paid for
winxp pro. Just in case someone thought that may be related to the problem.

easiest way is to use freakin kazaa, search for virtual machine, dl and
install, SP1 should fix all your problems though

my 2 cents
I run xp home, and swear that if you install msjava86.exe (that is vm) and
you can find it all over the www. and I have it on line also, then go to
windows updates, and they will update it..

I know ms says no more support for vm after Jan 2004 but as long as this
works, I am using it. I play all game site and see all applets..

and in tools/internet options/advanced/VN I ONLY have JIT checked..

good luck

I can't find it.
I've searched MSoft site.
Did a Google site.
And can't find the location to download it from...
Going crazy here, this should be easy.

Hi FireBrick - You can test whether Java is working on your machine at the
following
sites:

http://www.pocoso.de/pocoso052.html
http://www.clan.lib.ri.us/clan/javatest.html
http://www.fitwise.com/testjava.asp (both 1.0 and 1.1 and what's
installed)
http://coglab.wadsworth.com/support/browsercheck.html
http://www.ces.clemson.edu/webct/browser_detect.html

and you can test Javascript here:
http://www.dancespots.net/browsertest.htm

and check whether you have the MS VM installed and which version here:
http://www.visualware.com/support/javasupport.html

Be aware, however, that after Sept. 30, 2004, MS will apparently no longer
be distributing Java or providing any support for Java including
security fixes. (It's unclear as to how 6/26/03 court decision will
affect this) See here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/evaluation/news/jre.asp, and
http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/ ,and more recently here:
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle....RBAELCFEY?type=technologyNews&storyID=3572282
so you
might want to start thinking about the future.

You can get the Sun Java J2SE RunTimes or SDK here:
http://java.sun.com/downloads/index.html (all versions - select using
the dropdown)

Sun also offers an automatic download and install of the 1.4 Java
plug-in here: http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html

For the MS Java VM, you may need to install v.3809 prior to upgrading
to v. 3810 if you didn't previous have MS Java v. 3805 or 3809
installed.

If your OS is Win2000 SP2, SP3 but NOT SP4 then you can download and
install the MS Java VM v. 3809 from here:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/m..._510A502BA8F9B6F19230BB2BCCE87D5474AC9DCD.exe
or here:
http://www.biologylab.awlonline.com...icrosoft.Q810030_W2K_SP4_5849/Q810030_W2K.exe

For Win2000 SP4, you'll need to re-install v.3805, from here:
http://www.nhyrvana.com/files/pop.cgi?file=win2kmsjavx86.zip It will
download as Pop.zip. Just unzip it and then execute the resultant
msjavx86. This is the only version that I know of that will re-install
under SP4.

For all other OS's:

Download and install the MS Java VM v. 3809 from one of the links here:
http://www.nhyrvana.com/files/pop.cgi?file=3809.exe (it will be named
pop.exe), or here:
http://www.biologylab.awlonline.com...XP/com_microsoft.javavm_3809_5853/msjavwu.exe,
or here:
http://secinfo.huji.ac.il/patches/Win-xp/msjavwu.exe

Then upgrade to v. 3810:

For all OS's except Win2k, obtain v. 3810 here:
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?fid=1050022631

For all versions of Win2k - SP2, SP3 or SP4 - obtain v. 3810 here:
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...-9b18-423356321682/Q816093_W2K_SP4_X86_EN.exe

Both Java VM's can co-exist on your machine quite nicely. Just select
which one you want to use in Tools|Internet Options|Advanced and restart
all IE browsers. Here, courtesy of Michel Gallant, MVP Security, is a
tiny utility which allows you to toggle and view status of your current
Java VM vendor associated with IE:
http://pages.istar.ca/~neutron/SelectIEJVM

A note from Mitch Gallant:

"One note about the JVM Selector utility:
If/when you install a new version of Sun J2SE, you need to manually
select to have Sun JVM as default JVM for IE (in install), or after
install
via the JavaPlugin control panel. This generates the necessary win32
registry
entries, which must be present for the utility to know about JavaPlugin.
After that, the utility should work properly."

Please respond in the same thread.

Well that put Virtual Machine onto the Tools Advanced menu, but still no
java applets in web sites.
I'm getting very confused.

You may have to re-register the Java DLL.

Start /Run and type: regSvr32 msJava.dll

If not, you may have to uninstall Java VM first, then reinstall.

To un-install Java VM :

1. Start /Run, type:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection java.inf,UnInstall

2. to start the uninstall process.

a. Click Yes to the confirmation, then select Reboot.
b. After the machine restarts, delete the following items:
- the \%systemroot%\Java folder
- Java.pnf from the \%systemroot%\inf folder
- Jview.exe and WJview.exe from the \%systemroot%\system32 folder
- the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Java VM registry <subkey>
- the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\
JAVA_VM registry <subkey>
(to remove the Microsoft Internet Explorer--IE--options)

Microsoft Java VM is now removed.
You can now reinstall Java VM or Sun's Java RE.

Still have had no luck.

But thanks to all those who tried to help.
I've installed, uninstalled, and tried all your suggestions.
I'm truly stumped.

Double check this:

Internet Properties - Advanced

Make sure that under Java (Sun) you have ticked Use Java 2 v..... etc.

Under Microsoft VM, you have ONLY ticked JIT compiler for virtual... etc.

Reboot if asked to.

Good luck,

Zee

That didn't work either.

Are you running a Firewall?. I had exactly the same problem with a W98SE
box. It turned out to be a setting in ZAPro.

Maybe just download and install latest version from Sun, at
www.java.com. That may patch up any problems, and overcome the hidden
problems.

I checked the different Java Test Sights.
Those Java applets are working.

So why are the Java applets on my son's web page NOT working on that
machine?
If I can see other pages that have Java but on the same machine NOT see the
ones on my son's page.
his page is: http://sirphoenix.homeip.net/

Like I said, two machines see the fades and the Picture Gallery pictures.
Wife's machine passes Java test sites but will not show son's applets.

Very strange, must be Al Queada!

I went to your son's site and looked around. Aside from seeing that he
made it in FrontPage, I don't see any java applets. Post back and let
me know where they are supposed to be and I'll take another look. I use
Mozilla 1.4.5 under SUSE Linux 8.2 and have no problems using Sun Java.
Perhaps it is the webmaster's fault!

That didn't work either.

Your problem is that you've got build 3810 files all over the
place which won't be overwritten by earlier version files,
there is still a solution.

Go to the Catalog site and download update number 816093.
Open it with WinZip and inside WinZip's box double click on
javabase.cab file. Find and extract msjava.dll, put it in
your system folder then back out of WinZip and double click
the downloaded update - it should now renew all 3810 files
and work. I'm 98 and msjava.dll belongs in my system folder,
I do not know XP or where it uses such things so you might
want to look for VMinst.log in Windows folder for the exact
location for msjava.dll and then put it there for XP. Any
joy?

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp

Don't ask how.
Don't ask why.
Don't ask anything.
But it's working.

I want to thank everyone who helped.
This is one of those cases where:

"I really couldn't have done it without you"

I owe you all a beer or two.
Feel free to stop by.
