why the little house next to my index.htm file?

Redid my homepage and when I saved it, the symbol to the left of the file
name in folder view is a little house instead of the normal symbol for .htm
files and the remote site won't recognize it as the replacement homepage.
What does the symbol mean and how do I change it?

Indicates that the file the "Home" page. You can't change the symbol.

It is only an internal thing to the navigation structure feature(s) of
Frontpage.

Your home/default web page file has to be named whatever your host requires,
and that could be one of the following (or many others): default.html,
default.htm home.html, home.htm default.asp, default.aspx, index.html,
index.htm, index.asp, index.aspx etc etc.

The most common I've seen are the variations of "default" and "index".

What is the "normal symbol" that you speak of?

it's not a house, it's a home :)
