Why Slow/jerky scrolling Inbox/Sent Office 2003 & VISTA Business?

I upgraded from XPSP2 to VISTA business version. Scrolling speeds for Office
2003 especially Outlook Inbox and Sent is very slow and jerky. VAIO laptop
base score is 3.2 (Gaming graphics 3.2) Processor 4.6. Is there a driver
upgrade I need to find and install?

Thanks for help.

Suggest you visit Vaio site, as that is the only place you will find chipset
& other drivers for your laptop.
Thats assuming Vaio have Vista drivers for your laptop, and knowing Sony I
would have my doubts

Hi DL, I don't understand why it can be a SONY problem. Office 2003 worked
fine under XPSP2. VISTA Scrolling speed seems to be OK with other programs.
It is specifically a real pain with OUTLOOK Inbox and Sent. Why??

You updated to Vista, from WinXp
The two operating systems require different hardware drivers.
Your Vista installation will have used generic drivers.
In nearly all cases a Laptop manu drivers are unique to the specific Laptop
manu, especially so, video drivers
eg if you visit Nvidea site for laptop drivers you will be redirected to the
laptop manu, as Nvidea supplies the chip to the Laptop manu, who then
supplies the drivers.
You really need to visit Sony site and ensure you have Sony specific
drivers, only once that is done can you investigate further, should they not
cure the problem
PS Never use winupdate for hw drivers

Hi DL,

I went back to SONY. I downloaded the latest NVIDIA Graphics Driver Update
for My model and it made no difference. SONY have just mailed me ... "Thank
you for your enquiry.

Is it happening to any other applications? Outlook is a Microsoft
application, please contact Microsoft for further support. Enquire whether
Office 2003 will work well with Vista."
It does not apear to be happening with other apps. It is specifically the
'sent items' and 'inbox' that will not scroll properly with the mouse (ALPS
or Intellimouse - both updated for VISTA) but does scroll fine with the
keyboard. Similar situation with XL spread sheet scrolling with the mouse but
not the keyboard.

What do you think DL? It's maddening!

Is the NVidea driver you obtained from Sony, Vista complient? or is it
merely their latest driver.

I take it that when you say scroll the Inbox it means you have the Inbox
window opening & you are scrolling a list of Emails
Are there many emails in your inbox?
I'm assuming scrolling is fine in IE.

Hi DL,

Yes VISTA compliant and for VAIO models with mine (VGN-SZ15G) listed. Yes
I'm scrolling emails 714 in the inbox 278 in the Sent items.

Umm, well if you installed all the Sony Vista compliant drivers for your
sys, and it still exibits this behaviour in OL only, then I cannot offer any
other resolution.
It would appear to be a graphics related isssue, you could I suppose create
a new OL profile with a new data file, you can still keep the old data file
open, and see if the behaviour appears in the new data file.

Further; you might also consider the use of Archive, 714 mails in the inbox
seems a lot.
You can have the Archive open, within OL, so they are still accessible

Thanks a lot DL... but I should not have to do all this chasing around.
There's somethng quirky about VISTA. It sends out error notices about DEP and
it refuses to accept HP Photosmart and tells me that the Security Certificate
for HP has been revoked... Host process for blah blah has stopped working
etc. It will not accept 'pin to start menu' for Office apps that I use a lot.
You can pin them but they don't work! And this scrolling problem is really
too much. I heard today on the radio that DELL was reverting to sending out
PC's with XP OS due to discontent with VISTA! I had plenty of emails with
OUTLOOK on XP OS and they all scrolled just fine - but this VISTA is a
headache. Keyboard scrolling with VISTA works a treat just like XP. It's
only when using the mouse that the scrolling moves like a hearse, time
delayed and jerky! Oh and I do archive.

From what I read I believe Dell users were complaining of incompatibility
with, generally, hw, so the option was given to request WinXP rather than
Vista
Unfortunately people can experience probs with a new o/s, I still use win2k
on my main sys - it does what I want 24/7

To anybody who has been following this... I just downloaded REGCURE and
scanned several times and clicked on ‘fix’ each time and reduced ‘problems’
from 463 down to 7 left and lo and behold the scrolling problem is over. Now
it scrolls perfectly.Another of life’s mysteries solved. Is there an
explanation or is it just one of those MICROSOFT inexplicable quirks?

UPDATE! I reinstalled OFFICE SOUNDS after REGCURE and now I have the
scrolling problem again. Question.. "is there an update for OFFICE 2003
SOUNDS compatible with VISTA?"

Hey Richard...not sure if this will help becase this solution was on a system
with XP and Office 2007 but it's worth a try. This is from a post from "mk"
