why popups?

I am still getting popups even when not on the Internet, I
have a cable modem, Have XP firewall installed, have
Messenger services stopped, am running spybot and still
when i am not even logged on to the web. I will get popups
trying to load. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, if you have a cable modem, you *are* on the internet all the time--you
have a permanent connection to the internet. Just because Internet Explorer
isn't open does not mean you are not connected to the internet.

Have you updated Spybot recently? Make sure you have the latest update,
then run it again. Also get AdAware from
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ (free) and run it regularly
along with Spybot Search & Destroy.
