Why only BroadBand ADSL works but not 56Kbps modem?

Suddenly something has changed in my network. All of a sudden only BroadBand
ADSL clients can connect to my network using VPN and Terminal services, but
all 56kbps modems clients cannot connect to VPN and Terminal Services. Very
weird. If I replaced the 56kbps modem from those clients with an ADSL
modem, these clients will work. But when reinstall the 56kbps modem, they'll
fail to connect VPN and Terminal services. The VPN server and Terminal
Server is Windows 2k Advanced server SP4. Everything was fine until 2 days
ago when all 56Kbps modem fail to connect but Broadband clients still
connect nicely. What the hell is the problem??

When 56k users connect, can they ping the terminal server
and/or telnet to port 3389?

New discoveries, no they cannot ping the Terminal Server. If I go touch the
Terminal Server keyboard/mouse then the 56kbps modem connections will work
fine again. During all this time broadband connection has worked fine. This
is weird, why doesn't the whole thing just fail. This happens everynight,
56kbps modem will fail to connection during the night. When in the morning I
touch the keyboard/mouse of Terminal Server everything is back to normal
again.

Maybe the system is going to a low power standby and they
modem is being turned off(?)
