Why isn't the spelling and grammar working?

On word, the spelling and grammar is not picking up faults. i can type
complete jiberish and nothing will happen. I have checked it is turned on and
i know it is as when i go into it, it just tells me the check is complete?
 
Press Ctrl+A to select all the text. Then go to Tools | Language | Set
Language and make sure that the correct language is selected and that "Do
not check spelling or grammar" is not checked.
