Why is the "search in" pulldown unavailable for local .pst files?

Does someone know why I cannot use the "Search in" pulldown on the find task
pane to direct the search to look in more than one folder in my locally
stored .pst files.

I have the indexing service running and have converted to Unicode .pst
format but I still cannot use this pulldown and therefore am limited to a
single directory search within my archive files.

This is a considerable loss of functionality. There must be a setting
somewhere I am missing that will allow this type of search selection set.

Please help.

All of Outlook's search functions are limited to one *pst* - if the folders
are all in one pst, then it should work. If they are in multiple psts, then
you'll need a 3rd party search tool. I believe LookOut and the other search
tools all support searching across multiple psts.

PS - it has nothing to do with the indexing service or pst format.

I want to make sure I understand you.

Are you saying that Outlook's full search functions are limited to one *pst*
at a time OR one *pst* total?

What I am experiencing is that when I select the main Inbox folder in one of
my locally stored archive folders, I cannot use the "Search In" pulldown to
direct the search to include all of my subfolders in that archive. This
forces me to search one folder at a time.

I was able to do this in the last version of Outlook and I find it suprising
that it is not an option in this version.

[Thanks for eliminating my other theories that this had something to do with
indexing or unicode format.]

one pst at a time.

As long as all of the folders are in the same pst, you should be able to
search all of the folders in it - so it sounds like it's broken. I'll see
what i can find out.
