Why is the screen blank with Error Checking in XP Pro SP2 ??????

I remember when I first bought Windows XP Professional, that when you ran
Error Checking, after the reboot you would get the blue screen with helpful
text telling you what stage of disk error checking you were at.

Now, with all Service Packs and patches applied, there is NO screen at all.
What's up with that ? TIA.

you can view the messages by using the /sos switch

here is a copy of my (win2k) boot.ini

[boot loader]
timeout=15
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional" /fastdetect /sos

If you use my boot.ini as an example as where to put the /sos you should be
able to view all boot messages
