Why is the damn disk always busy?

I

invader

Honestly, I've never seen an OS that seems to waste disk access like this one
does.

I murdered the stupid search indexer, so it's not that.

I have 4 GB of ram and I'm not even using half of it, so it's not swapping.

There seems to be some worthless process named "system" (descriptive title,
as usual) that is always screwing with C:\$Mft (Master File Table). Sometimes
rather than "System", it's "Explorer", even though I'm not using Explorer.

Often times various processes are screwing around with the junk email folder
even though I have neither loaded Windows Mail nor asked any process to do
anything with the junk email folder.

It's a mystery, it truely is. All that crap in the Junk Email folder must
really be of use to some Windows process that runs without my permission. If
I could slaughter yet another needless Vista resource-gobbling process, I
would, but it appears that 99% of Vista calls itself either "Explorer" or
"System", and so I have no idea what this thing is that takes such an
interest in my Junk Email folder.

You dont see such crap software like that being sold so expensive and forced
on computers

All this activity is so stupid and indeed dangerous.. you used to be able to
detect if some spyware was on your pc if it was acting strange..but now?Now
your computer is ALWAYS acting strange! HAHAHA!

What is ever MORE hilarious is that some idiots in here actually thing vista

Actually, the guy was asking about excess disk access on Vista systems, not
your perverted commentary on Vista itself. For me, Vista works perfectly,
faster, and more safely than the four other OSs I use.

For the original writer, I'd look into scheduled tasks that may be running
(defrag, Windows Defender, Antivirus scans, etc). Since you turned off
indexing, that shouldn't be a prob. My Vista system doesn't access the hard
disk as much as yours seems to, but I have everything set to manual (no auto
task schedules). Of course, Vista does update its log files periodically
and checks for certain updates (i.e, Java), and that's a good thing.
