Why is it that my refresh resets my registry setup

Why is it that my screen refresh (about 4 to 6 times within a few seconds) resets my registry setup ?
And is there a way to make my registry setting perminent in WinXP Pro
 
You'll have to be more specific about what's being refreshed in the Registry. And what's causing the screen refresh that often.
