I tried to set up my Windows XP (version 2002, SP1) to do Automatic Update. But all the options on the Automatic Update tab are greyed out. I was able to install other patches/updates that require admin privileges though

Any ideas

like fritz is saying could be a gpo or also if not on a domain could be a local sec policy that has been applied to your computer.

Have the updates u applied come from windows update or dl
from the microsoft site and run offline.

Win XP does not work in windowsupdate or automaticupdate
unless windows has been activated. Also WinXP SP1 will
not work either
