Why does Word 2k7 crash when you open a previous format Word doc?

Word 07 crashes every time I open a Word 03 document, taking down with it all
the other documents that are open regardless of version. Why?

Only one particular Word 03 document? Then there's a problem with that
document. All Word 03 documents? Then there's a problem with your Word
07 installation.
