Why does Windows Mail seem to miss newsgroups?

I know for a fact that alt.binaries.food is a group I get from GigaNews and
I read it on OE6, but my new Vista machine will NOT find the group when I do
a complete list reset. Any idea why - or - is there anyway to force WinMail
to subscribe to a group not found in the list?

Thanks for any help.

the news server that windows mail has when its first run is the microsoft
one only...

this means it lists only the microsoft one...

you will have to make a new newsgroup account and add the news server you
used before..

then you will download the list of all the newsgroups...

Thank you for the reply. I have already made the account setup for GigaNews.
After I download the list from GigaNews, it is missing the group
'alt.binaries.food' which is an active group on GigaNews. I do appreciate
the response, however.

Thanks again,
Kurt

if it downloaded all the newsgroups then its a problem with the news server

send them an email and ask them

I did. Unfortunately, GigaNews claims that it is the news client software -
I tend to agree. Does anyone use WinMail with GigaNews? If so, could you try
to find 'alt.binaries.food'? I can get the group using OE6; just not
WinMail.

Thanks
Kurt

apparently the group does not exist anymore.
I use giganews via comcast and it is not there.
there are several there that end in
..food
for none with the name you indicate.

I added the Giganews server to Windows Mail, and I don't see
alt.binaries.food either.
It does show up in another program called Grabit, with over 15,000 articles.
It shows up in Agent, also.

The "alt.binaries.food" group also shows up on Giganews in Thunderbird.

It does appear to be a Windows Mail problem, since I can find it in 3
different news readers, using the same news server.

It's probably localized to this computer, because my ISP news server has it,
using Windows Mail on Vista Home Basic.

What AV are you using? If it's set to scan mail, it might cause almost
anything to happen.

Are you missing other newsgroups, too? (total number of hosted vs. listed)

I know you already reset the newsgroup list, maybe you need to
remove/defrag/recreate the news server account. (?)

Thank you all for trying this out. I cannot tell what other groups if any
are missing - no others that I read are missing. I have Norton INet Security
on the Vista machine. Good idea - I will try disabling it and see what
happens (if anyting) and report back.

Thanks again all,
Kurt
