Need help finding newsgroup

J

Joe Pak

I used Outlook Express for many years to access newsgroups. One of my
favorites was alt.binaries.food.

My new computer has this Windows Mail instead of OE, and for some reason
doesn't find abf. It finds over 108,000 other groups but not abf!

I just installed Forte Agent and it finds abf just fine, but I don't much
care for Agent.

I was hoping someone here might have an idea why this is happening.

Thanks,

Joe

Well not sure why you cannot find it, but I just looked under Windows Mail,
searched the newsgroups for food and it shows fine to me. I use roadrunner
and it appears fine on my newsgroups list.

Do you have some sort of filter enabled maybe?

No filter. I find alt.binaries.food.sushi, but not alt.binaries.food.

I use Comcast and have never had a problem before. It's so wierd!

I have no idea why you cannot access the
alt.binaries.food newsgroup but FWIW...many
users are changing to Windows Live Mail:

Have you set up the same news server as you had in OE and are using in
Agent?
Not all servers carry the same newsgroups.

Then I would suggest Trertting the list or newsgroups on the server. Right
click the server in the Folder List.

I'm not quite sure what you wanted me to do, Frank. I right clicked on the
server, which is newsgroups.comcast.net. Then I clicked reset list. It
downloaded all 108,000+ groups. Then I clicked on newsgroups and searched
for alt.binaries.food and all it came up with was alt.binaries.food.sushi.

I go over to Agent, using the same server and it's there!

It's making me nuts!

I don't know what else to suggest.

Not that it matters, but I checked my AT&T (SBC) news server, and both
alt.binaries.food and alt.binaries.food.sushi were present. I don't see any
option in Windows Mail that could suppress a specific newsgroup.
The OP might try Windows Live Mail, just to see if that cures the problem.

I don't have any answer, but I have seen this issue before, with this same
group.
A few months ago, I tried it with different news servers and replicated the
problem with WM.

I just checked out your link, but it looks like it's just for mail. It
doesn't say anything about newsgroups.

Thanks for trying anyway. It's just hard for me to believe that it lists
over 108,000 groups, and the one I want is missing...

Live mail does newsgroups?

Windows Live Mail does. Microsoft doesn't mention it in the glossy ads
because most people have no idea what newsgroups are, and it would
just cause their eyes to glaze over. :)

OK, I'll give it a shot...
