Why does my windows installer freeze?

Lately, my Windows Installer program (msiexec.exe located in
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msiexec.exe) has been freezing upon
installation and unistallation of some programs. The
programs cannot install because the installer freezes about
80%-90% of the way through installation. The same goes for
some of the programs I have installed that I would like to
uninstall. Microsoft itself does no seem to want to help
me out because they will not let me contact them by email,
so I am hoping someone knows something about this issue and
can help me. Thank you.

Tyson, it maybe that the msiexec.exe file is corrupt. Try a System File
Check.
Start>Run type: sfc /scannow Have the WinXP CD in the cdrom
drive.
or it maybe a trojan, spyware or adware. Check here and use
these sites.

I was having the same problem and then turned off my firewall during
the program I wanted to download and as soon as it was installed, Log
off and the firewall comes right back up at boot-up..I also have to do
this with windows updates...
