Dear all,
We encouter problem when we supporting Windows XP PC. Your help is
needed. The problem is regarding about MSIEXEC.EXE
Due to some virus attack problem, windows installer disappeared from the
services list. We have found some work around from the web that instruct to
modify some of the registry file and unregister/regserver MSIEXEC.EXE.
After restarting PC, we did see windows installer in the service list
and it is under Manual status. We thought the problem is solved. The user
requested to install Hotspring PDA software, the real problem begun. During
the installation of the PDA software, an error message appear "Error -1607:
Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting Run Time" . We restarted the
Windows XP and found that the Windows installer disapear from the services
list again.
We really don't understand why it will disapear. Could it be msiexec.exe
curropted or some other problem? We really want to find out what is the
caused and what is the solution. Please help.

thanks

Line #94 on the left side: Windows Installer Fix. Click the link, save the file
wininstaller.reg to your hard drive. Then double click the downloaded file, click yes
when asked if you want to add the information to the registry. After the registry
information has been added, reboot your system and see if the problem is fixed.
