1607 Error when trying to install SW, and...

D

In an attempt to retrieve data from a failing HD, I went to install the
OnTrack Data Recovery software on my PC and received the following error
message: 1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting

So after digging around, I found the following link on the MS website where
it describes how to Reinstall the InstallScript Engine.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888019

Unfortunately, the path C:\Program
Files\InstallShield\Developer\Redist\Language Independent\i386 does not
exist, and when I search for Isscrpt.msi that should be in that directory,
it's nowhere to be found on the C: Drive. After digging a little deeper, I
though that the problem might be related to msiexec.exe, and the Windows
Installer in general, but I'm not so sure if that's part of the problem or
not.

The last software progarm I installed was for the Palm Treo which was about
2 months ago and it worked fine, and I started the installation process of
another SW program this morning and it seemed to work fone, so I'm somewhat
at a loss of what to look for next.

Any idea's?
Thanks

See if this article helps:
"Error 1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting Run Time"
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108340

Otherwise, contact the tech support since this is third-party software.

Thanks, that link helped solve my immediate problem! Now if I could just
get the Master File Table repaired without having to try and recover mega
gigs of data I'd be happy!

You're certainly welcome!

Well, that's an entirely different issue. If "chkdsk" didn't help, try
third-party software eg. (not tested by myself):
http://shareme.com/details/ntfs-volume-files-recovery.html (excerpt)

| It can repair damaged MFT, MBR or directories, boot sector.

If this doesn't help either, starting a new thread might be a good idea.
