Error 1607

I am unable to install software because I keep getting
Error 1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting
Runtime.
How do I get this error message to go away and become
able to install items. I am the system administrator on
my own system but winXP was put on by another party and
may have set something so that I cannot install.

Are you saying you cannot install ANY program or you just
can't install a certain program. If it is a certain
program, go to its website, they may have a patch.

Sounds to me as though its the Windows installer that's
busted rather than any particular application. If I were
you I'd look for an update to your windows installer (
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;305496 ).

I am having the same problem only worse. The problem with James W's suggestion is that there is no file available for XP because it comes with the software. In addition to being unable to install Quicken 2004, Office XP Professional has uninstalled itself and will not reinstall. I have spent over 4 hours on the phone and online with tech support at Intuit and Microsoft and each time they tell me to do something my problem becomes worse. I need these programs for my business and I am becoming VERY frustrated. I have been told that my installer has become corrupted. The walkthrough to reinstall the installer does not work either. I have no viruses. I really need to know how to fix this problem.
