Hi,

I have two pc's on my home network, and quite frequently the network fails.
It can fail when transferring large files or if I print a document to the
printer across the network, sometimes it will fail when apparently doing
nothing. I have to reboot the pc's to restore the connection. One PC is
using XP Pro (client) and the other is using W98se as the host via ICS.

Any help appreciated.

Mike.

If you're suffering from the "The specified network name is no
longer available" error, you'll be lucky to get a real solution in
here; it appears to be one of those unacknowledged bugs.

The only work around I know is to "zip" the offending file and try
again. It works for me... I don't know why, but it does.

Time to do some hardware diagnosis on your nic. Try swapping out one of
the nic's with a known-good one; try changing cables. Do one thing at a
time.
