Why does Classic style replaces Windows style?

Hi, I've read through all the similar topics but didn't found the precise
solution.

Description: when logon in user rights, the "Windows and buttons" option
under Display Properties>Appearance is changed from Windows XP style to
Windows Classic style and I can't change it back :( NB! It happens when
computer is shut down and I switch on. Strange thing is that when I log on,
then log off and again log on (same user with same rights) then it's Windows
XP style again :O And 1 another notification is that users witht
administrator right don't have any problems.

What I've tried: 1) Editing gpedit.msc - everything was "Not Configured" so
it was pointless. 2) Giving users full access to C:\Windows\Recources -
didn't work. 3) Configuring service Themes to log on with Administrator
rights - complete mess :) 4) Using Kelly's registry additions from her
xp_tweaks site. 5) Performance Settings under My Computer>Advanced + many
possible and unpossible options...

ok, I'm getting frustrated and desperate. Please help! (A) Otherwise I'll
have to install plain Windows. Maybe it helps if I say that my computer is
brand new T42 with all the IBM staff including Fingerprint Reader and Client
Security Software and security chip etc. And I installed XP from image that
was created from another T42.

All the best...

Since you have a new ThinkPad, you might want to try the newsgroup

ibm.ibmpc.thinkpad.

Also, on the website

http://forum.thinkpads.com/

since you mentioned installing plain Windows, you will find in the FAQs how
to load on a copy of Windows XP without the IBM software and where to go on
the IBM site to load all the necessary drivers.

That site is here:

I hope this helps.

Desktop Windows and buttons

Make sure that you have Windows XP as Theme choice.

Right Click My Computer| Properties | Advanced tab | Performance | Settings
button | Visual Effects tab | Select: Use visual styles on Windows and
buttons | Apply | Apply | OK

If you select a visual style other than Windows Classic, that style
determines the appearance of your menus, fonts, icons, and other Window
elements. Including Windows and buttons.

Windows and buttons
[[Lists the visual styles that are available for the theme that is currently
selected on the Themes tab. ]]

[[NOTE: You can change the look of individual items if you select Windows
Classic style in the Windows and buttons list on the Appearance tab of
Display Properties. (Right-click an empty area of your desktop, then click
Properties, and then click the Appearance tab). If you select a visual style
other than Windows Classic, that style determines the appearance of your
menus, fonts, icons, and other Window elements. ]]
How to Change the Font, Size, and Colors of Desktop Items

[[1. You have an OEM version of Windows XP and the provider didn't include
the Windows XP Luna theme nor did they include any new Windows and Buttons
themes.

2. You are running the the Itanium (64-bit) version of Windows XP, which
does NOT install the Theme service, and does NOT have the Windows XP Luna
theme or any new Windows and Buttons themes.]]
Only 'Classic Windows' is listed in the 'Windows and Buttons' drop-down list
