Why does Business Office Contact Manager shut down Outlook?

I cannot activate Business Office Contact Manager without it conflicting with
Outlook, and then shutting down outlook. For me to use Outlook I had to
uninstall Business Office Contact Manager. Any suggestions?

Hey Bob,

I've got the same problem mate. I just got Office Professional 2003 a couple
of days ago and everything else works ok except for BCM. After installing it,
enabling it and even talking to my computer nicely - it still decides to
crash the whole of Outlook and then I have to Uninstall it so I can get
Outlook functionality back.

Have you had any joy in finding a solution since your last post???

Hey JASE,

I uninstalled it for yet a third time but then I found there was a patch on
the Microsoft site which they don't advertise but it is there nonetheless. I
downloaded the patch, reinstalled BCM then executed the patch and low and
behold the system now works very well. I downloaded the patch to my desktop
for convenience. Hope this works for you. Please let me know. Cheers! Bob

Cheers Bob,

I had another read through other discussions and I tried uninstalling .net
2.0. BCM now works with no worries so it's all go!!! I guess the program just
runs into little problems relating to other programs and a little tweaking
here and there is required.

It's probably a work in progress for Microsoft - I really hope with future
versions they allow you to customise it a little further to get your own
unique flavour.

Hobbes,

Can you tell me where you got the patch or the name of the patch file?

Million thanks

I installed the patch but still have the problem of Outlook 2003 shutting
down immediately after opening until I uninstalled Outlook 2003 with BCM and
reinstalled Outlook 2003

I understand that there are still problems from time to time. What worked
for me was the following? (a) download the patch from the "Business Contact
Manager Patch site" and save it to desk top. (b) uninstall Outlook 2003 and
BCM. (c) reinstall Outlook 2003 and BCM and also install patch. It then
worked for me. I had to play with the sequence of installation a few times
to get it correct. I also found that there is a conflict with Norton
Internet Security and Antivirus causing a conflict. I had to disable the
email export scan. The conflict then ceased.

Hope this works.

Cheers!

I am having the same problem..wasted hours now on it.
I upgraded from 2003 (which i had never used) to the 2007 XP pro package..
Does anyone know how to fix this? i've read thru all the threads and can't
seem to find a user friendly fix... i don't understand registry key issues
etc.. as have been offered as a solutionon othe rposts

Do you intend to use BCM? - if not uninstall it
Does outlook itself function without problems?

Yes.. i have lists of contacts in excel, for fvarious fundraisers: i am
trying to figure out how to automatically import the email addresses into
business contacts so i can send targeted emails depending on the charity i am
working on.

I loaded all of the service pack related to BCM.. no luck.. then i read that
if i deinstalled .net2.0, it would work. Well i did all the de installs..(
you can't just deinstall 2.0 if you have higher versions) 3.5, 3.0 AND
2.0..guess what.. another dead end. BCM REQURIES .net 2.0 even to deinstall
... so ANOTHER DEADEND>.

What is this Microsoft.. i just wasted almost three days on a RIDICULOUS
problem. I would NEVER recommend this product to anyone. total HELL.. I've
tried accessing the sub modules.. but like projects etc..which i can work
around, but i think you need to access the HOME PAGE of bcm to be able to
import..
Does anyone know if i can use quickbooks instead to be able to import excel
spreadsheet contact info and select which ones go into distribution lists?

Thank you

So you installed Office 2007 including Outlook.
Did you then run MS Update and install any required critical updates?
Does Outlook then function OK?
If so what exactly happens when you install BCM?
