why do we need recovery console?

Hi,
If the OS can't boot up, normally we would use the recovery console to
replace some corrupted files. Actually, if I got another OS (let say
win2000) which can be boot up, can I replace the corrupted/missing files via
the OS instead of booting into recovery console. Thx

NO! The filesystem versions do not behave the same way in each Windows
version. NTFS format has changed in XP.
