Why do my bullets disappear when I hit backspace no matter what?

Alright, when I am doing an outline for my notes, I tend to use bulllets.

Initially, when I hit tab and backspace, the bullets will change indents and
shapes and what not just fine.

But after awhile, if I hit backspace, the bullet just disappears. I did not
change, I do not think, any options.

How do I get it to go back to just decreaesing indent when I hit backspace?

This is "by design": if you backspace at a point where Word feels you're at the
end of the levels, it decides you want to go out of bullets&numbering mode and
removes the bullet (or number)

Personally, I prefer using Shift+Alt+Left/Right arrow to change outline levels.
No conflicts with any other commands, using that.
