I don't know. Have you tried the RestoreVenom add-in? :-)

Seriously, I don't know what you're asking. Post with more detail, including
your version/mode/SP level of Outlook.
 
Attachements received in Outlook, either excel or word, sometimes show as a
winmail_data defanged file. I have Outlook 2003 and so does the sender.

Outlook doesn't add any messages about 'defanged', so if that's the exact
error message you're seeing, it's from something else - server based
antivirus software, etc etc etc.

If you're just seeing winmail.dat as a file attachment, have everyone use
plain text or html as their message format - not rich text.
