Because Hotmail (Microsoft) has decided it wants money for Outlook/Outlook
Express access.

That will only work until Hotmail cancels your access sometime next spring
AT THE LATEST. Some users are already losing access, as evidenced by the
complaints here. When that happens, I will gladly no longer use my still
available but unused Hotmail account.

You know...you'd think that by purchasing Outlook that Hotmail would come for
free, but alas...my account just died on me and Outlook 2003 just the other
day.

Right now I can still receive email thru OE but have to log on to Hotmail to
send a reply or new message. That picture matching brewhaha is also a bunch
of pooey - what is MSN passport for anyway!?!
You know - Bill is really starting to get my goat. Maybe he shouldn't be
giving away so much of his money (tho worthy causes) - then he wouldn't have
to risk driving away customers for the sake of "preventing spam". That's the
guise they are throwing at us. Also, is paying $20 bucks a year really gonna
cut down on spam? Most I receive is from companies - not personal crap
loaded with viruses...
I originally signed up for free hotmail because I am one of those that shops
around ever so often for a better isp deal. With the hotmail, I don't have
to let friends & businesses know of email address changes every time I switch
to a new isp's special rate.
By the way - did anyone get a notice that this was coming down the pike? I
just logged on the other day & discovered the "issue". Took me 2 hours of
net surfing to kind of figure out what was going on.

The news that Microsoft was going to do this has been floating around since
September 2004.

It's amazing though that they didn't send out an email notification saying
"Hey - today is your to be cut off - you may experience problems. That would
have been only decent common courtesy & good customer service though...That's
what really got me...
