Lost folders in hotmail after using Outlook Connector

M

missyh

I downloaded outlook connector and all of my hotmail items transferred to my
outlook fine. However, I just noticed that all of my folders from hotmail
were also synched to outlook, and have disappeared from hotmail.
I still have the emails in my outlook (2007), however I really need to synch
the emails back into my hotmail account - as there are folders on there that
I cannot lose so that's why I stick with hotmail - to have web-based storage
for these emails should something ever happen to my laptop.

How can I get these folders to appear back into my hotmail account?

I posted on the Windows Hotmail Message Board and was directed to post here
instead as it is "outlook connector" problem apparently..

Did you move those folder to another place in Outlook after you downloaded
them with the Outlook Connector?
The Outlook Connector is a 2-way sync process so what you do via Outlook
gets replicated to your on-line account. So if you move your Outlook
Connector folders to a pst-file, the folders gets deleted on-line since they
no longer exist in your Outlook Connector account.

It sounds like you must have dragged the folders to another PST/OST/etc.
file. The good news is the fix is just as easy - just drag the folders back
to your Hotmail account list and they will be restored to your Hotmail
account online.

Everything you see via the Connecter in Outlook is mirrored on the Hotmail
account - folders, messages, appointments, etc.

I have a hotmail account using Microsoft Office Outlook Connector 12.1 in Outlook 2007 in a profile called Hotmail.

I backed up all the data (PST and OST) from the outlook folder and move outlook connector folders to a new PST in my hotmail profile. After 30 mins the folders disapeared in Hotmail. As I read in another of your posts this is a normal outlook connector sync situation.

I followed your suggestion and moved the folders from the PST to the outlook connector OST but after a few minutes the folders also disapeared in Outlook. I think the sync from Hotmail erased the outlook folders.

I wonder if I can restore these folders from the original OST I backed up.

Thank you in advance.

Did yo udo this moving from within Outlook? If you move a folder from the
Hotmail folder set to another PST, the WIndows Live server will detect this
and remove the folder from the online folder set as well. Some folders,
though, like Inbox, shouldn't be movable. The on-disk OST is a cache that
should mirror what's on the Windows Live server and changes you make to the
local folders should get propagated back to the server at the next
send/receive.

You cannot restore things from an OST. There's no way to reconnect an OST to
Outlook. You could purchase an OST to PST conversion tool, though, and
connect the resulting PST.to the profile.

Thank you for your answer, Brian. I found the deleted folders on the sync
problems folder. I moved to the OST to their original place. I did this
disconnected from the Internet. I pressed Send & Receive button in the
Outlook 2007 and after 90 sync minutes I received new e-mail from my hotmail
account.

However I did not see the folders back on Hotmail. What can I do to solve
this issue?
Thank you again for your time.

I don't know what you mean by referring to the OST. You don't directly
manipulate items in an OST. You manipulate items in the folders associated
with the Hotmail account.

Where are you looking, in Outlook or in the Hotmail mailbox using a web
browser?

It is correct your point. I see and move items in the outlook connector
folders I have in Microsoft Outlook 2007
Where are you looking, in Outlook or in the Hotmail mailbox using a web
browser?

I Microsoft Outlook, on the hotmail associated folder I see my folder as
well as the inbox, etc.

I Howmail via IE8 I only see the default folders (Inbox, sent items, etc). I
am able to sync e-mail from the Inbox but it does not appear my folders back
in the IE8 brower when I login in Hotmail.

I had several folders with e-mails on the left column of the Hotmail
account. They sync with Outlook with the Outlook Connector. I moved my
folders from the hotmail associated folder to a new PST I created in Outook
2007. When I sync after this action, my folder were erased from the Hotmail
account accesed via web browser.

I read in another forum that if I moved back the folders to the hotmail
associated folders in Outook it would sync again with the Hotmail account I
access via web browser.

I moved my folders, hit Send&receive and after 90 mins of sync they still
are missing in the Hotmail account accesed via web browser.

Is there a way to sync back my folders from Outlook 2007 to the Hotmail
account?

Thank you advance

I would expect this.

I would try deleting the Hotmail account in Outlook, stopping and restarting
Outlook, and re-adding the account. I'd also see if the Outlook Connector 14
beta worked differently.
