why can't my email download large files in outlook?

Every time someone sends me a large email attachment... typically over 3 or 4
mb's, my Outlook freezes up and won't download it. I have plenty of memory
on my hard drive, plenty of processing memory, my email account will hold a
gig of info... anyone have anything that I might try????
 
Is there a cap on your email account on the mail server, either POP3 or
Exchange? If you have a POP3 account, what type of internet connection do you
have?
