Large Inbox File Outlook XP Freezes

M

McClint

I tried downloading a 20MB file from my email server and it just caused
Outlook XP to freeze up. Now whenever I start Outlook it just freezes. I
have tried deleting the email from my server's inbox through the webmail
interface but the large file still shows up in Outlook when I start it up and
Outlook continues to freeze. What should I do?

Thanks,

Mine freezes up too, whenever OUTLOOK considers it a large file. This happens
when I tried to download or move the attachment to a folder. The "Not
Responding" message always comes up. I do not have the other symtoms you
describe.

I was so fustrated that I just let it run. At one time it did correct
itself but took about a minute and a quarter.

Please help!

Try turning off your anti virus software. My computer froze when I tried to
send an e-mail with a large attachment and another person suggested that and
it let me delete the e mail.

Thanks Dave but in an effort to get to the bottom of it, i did not install
any anti-virus software.

I spoke to technical support at Microsoft yesterday. He says that OUTLOOK
cannot handle large attachments. When it is attempted, it overwhelmed the
processor and effectively have a panic attack. If you wait for a while, it
may or may not settle down and eventually it may send or crash. He also
commented that OUTLOOK may be able to handle large files in five years. I'm
amazed at this. He made me feel like working in a computer environment of 15
years ago.

The computer people says there is nothing wrong with the hardware. They are
not responsible.

As a non techical person, what am I to do except to accept it. Not happy
about that.
