Why can't I see all files/folders shared on my home LAN?

I have a two-computer network set up at home. One is a laptop, one is a
desktop, both running XP Home fully updated.

On desktop, I have folder "My Pictures" shared on the network.

Laptop can see "My Pictures" fine.

However, laptop has problems seeing the contents of various folders
underneath "My Pictures".

For example, laptop can see all of the files and folders in //desktop/My
Pictures/2005, but it can only see 3 of the 8 folders in //desktop/My
Pictures/2005/Honeymoon.

Further, laptop can see all of the files and folders in //desktop/My
Pictures/2006, but can not see a single one of the files/folders in
//desktop/My Pictures/2006/Blizzard.

I have checked all properties for the folders on desktop, but can find no
differences. I can see no rhyme or reason why those particular folders don't
show up when laptop browses over the network, but once it occurs once for a
folder, it always occurs for that folder.

One last thing... if I share the affected folder directly (as opposed to
relying on the "share" settings of the parent folder), I can see all contents
fine! While this works, I'd much rather not have to share 50 different
folders when all I should have to do is share the parent folder.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

It's always possible to have various files and folders visible / accessible
differently (depending upon what edition of Windows you have).

There is, though, a known problem with one specific Windows Update causing your
symptoms.

Finally! After endless searching and posting on other message boards!
Something that works!

I downloaded the fix for the Windows Update bug and installed on both
machines. Now everything seems to be visible on the network again!

Thanks a million!
