Why can't I save to my D: Drive?!

HI!
I'm having problems with my D drive and I don't know why I should be. I
just had a new ROM drive put in just about a year ago, and I also had a new
hard drive put in 4 months ago. I can play music CDs and even rip them. I
guess I haven't tried to burn any CDs since this problem has come up. But I
also cannot save any pictures to CDs so I can get them off of my computer. I
thought maybe I had a bad CD, so I bought new ones that has more than enough
memory on them to save pictures to. Every time I try to save a picture to my
D drive, it says---Unexpected Error Code: Attempting to change to directory
D:\ gave unexpected error code 1.

WHY?!?!?! This is driving my nuts!!! I don't have any virus problems. Any
help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

sorry, my message got erased.. anyways..

try just dragging the pictures that you want to burn onto the cd right
onto the D:/ drive.. then there should be an option to "burn to cd"
get back to me if you need help.

There's nothing sacred about a D: drive, it's my system drive!
If pictures are selected in say, My Pictures, there should be an
option "Copy to CD". That works well for me without any special
extra software using a CD-R. I'm not really sure what "burn"
means but I guess I am somewhat Neanderthal in that respect! I
do have Nero but I don't need it for just copying picture files.

Sorry, this reply is off topic, but I just have to ask why you use a
non-standard way of quoting text when you reply to a message? When one
is used to the standard > as a quote indicator, your way is confusing.
I'm an old timer from way back and just don't see the need to try to
improve on something that doesn't need it.

It's perfectly standard these days and useful for separating out
different contributions. I am using FidoLook as many others do

what exactly are you trying to do?

state your problem a little more clear. as for the "D" drive.. it
usually is a cd-rom drive..unless a new harddrive is installed and you
replace the drive name.. anyways..
i dont understand what you are trying to do.

Hi--
Sorry, for some reason I've had problems reading my messages. My drive
that I'm trying to save to is called a "CD-RW Drive (D:)" I want to be able
to insert a blank CD into that drive and after opening my picture program, I
want to save pictures to that CD. I will try to do what you suggested and
see if that works. Either way, I will reply and let you know. Thank you all
for your suggestions. It is very much appreciated.

HI!
Well, I hope you don't have a sore neck!) I was able to do what I
wanted using Nero. I did save all of my pictures to a CD using Nero. You
said that if I format a CD, I can use it like a drive. How many MBs do I
have to have? I have CD's with 700 MB. So far, I was able to view my slide
show on my CD, and deleted all of the pictures off of my computer. I will
admit that I'm not very fluent in computer language. Trial & error are my
usual methods! I did not format the CD that I saved to tonight. Does that
mean that I will not be able to add more pictures to it later on? Thank you
all so much for helping me with this problem. I've never used Microsoft
Newsgroups before, but it is very helpful. Thanks a bunch!

I have been reading this thread and I am afraid that my head will come off if I
shake it more.

You cannot just save to a CD. You can use Nero or some other program to burn a
bunch of files and you can mix photo, text and program files and even put them
in folders so they are nice and tidy - you can then burn the CD and even have a
chance for later on to add more files to that CD - but is is not anything like
saving to a CD as you are trying to do. To do that you need to format the CD.

Roxio and Nero have programs that will format a CD allowing you to use the CD as
a hard drive and therefore SAVE the files. It does require you to FORMAT the CD
using either Nero (InCD) or Roxio ('drag to disk', as far as I remember). It
takes a long time to format a CD that way. If you use a CD RW, you can also
delete the whole disk and start over. It is messy and I prefer to have a folder
which holds items I need to save permanently and when there are sufficient to
nearly fill a CD, I will burn that folder to the CD and when I have made sure
that all is on the CD, I can then happily delete the item on the folder on the
hard drive.

about saving to cd.. you can drag files onto the drive and windows has
a burn option for the files on the left side

usually is the fastest way

i use nero though

Since you posted this reply, I've checked the 27 newsgroups I follow
and I haven't found anyone else doing this. Where do find a reference
to this type of quoting that leads you to believe it's a "standard"
these days.

I have no idea why this bugs me so much. I'll try to get over it—it's
really not a big deal, but it sure bothers me. Maybe I need to get the
doctor to adjust my meds. LOL

Back in the old bulletin board days (Fidonet, PC Board, etc.), that kind of
quoting, with the posters intitials, used to be standard. I too almost never
see it these days.

I actually think having the initials was helpful, but I think more important
is that we all follow the same standards. When different people quote
differently, threads with several layers of indenting get hard to follow.

So I'm with you.

By the way, you'll note that the Z> quotes are absent in the quoted material
above. That's because OE-Quotefix removes the non-standard Zs here.
